 Jimmy Dee

one of the original Rock 'n' Roll artists

Jimmy Dee in the 1980s                                    Music makes such great memories

Forty years later, when parted are those who were singing then,
and you look back in dream-like wonder, what you were like back in the day.
Then, it may be, they will come back to you, glimpses of notes from an old song,
visions of youth floating before them, echoes of dreamland shall bear them along,
and for a few moments you are young again. All this in the notes of an old song.
 -- Jimmy Dee

Jimmy Dee began performing at the age of 10. He was appearing in lounges and clubs at the age of 12 and appeared on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand TV program at the age of 13. His first record hit in the Billboard Top 50 within a month of release.  His popular songs include;  Henrietta, You're Late Miss Kate, Feel Like Rockin', Here I Come, Don't Cry No More, Monster Hop, Please Don't Go, I Want A Love I Can Feel,  Rock Tick Tock, Just A Moment, That's What I Call Love and many more.

He recorded for TNT, DOT, Big Top, Nashville, Pixie, Roulette and five other labels and released three CDs. Downbeat Magazine readers poll voted him among the top Rock ‘n’ Roll percussionists in the world during 1965 for his work as a session musician working in both Memphis and Nashville with the great recording artists of that period. He has recorded in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Memphis, Nashville and Muscle Shoals performing rock, pop, and some country and jazz.  A new CD, REMEMBER WHEN, has been released on Ascot. It is a complilation CD that includes the first and the most recent recordings.  The CD is available in our store.

Jimmy and his five member band, the DeeLites, all experienced and talented musicians, several were former members of The Persuaders, Jimmy's band from the 1960s, performed together since 1987 and  appeared in 39 cities and 5 foreign countries. In recent years, he was best known for his summer appearances at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Home of The Shag, and at the Hang Out in Panama City, Florida, where he recreated the 1950s and brought back the “Bop.”  He appeared in Calgary, Canada to a sold out house and returned several times to Memphis where he received standing ovations. His performances in Germany and France were highly successful.

Oldies is the music Jimmy loves. He was there, years ago, when it wasn’t called the oldies. He was part of the creation of Rock 'n' Roll music and is considered a Rockabilly great.

Expertly performing traditional rock, pop, and doo wop, Jimmy Dee provided it all, with the great sound, lights, and action expected from a seasoned professional entertainer.  He and his band did much more than just play great music… they entertained audiences with their fantastic choreography, Jimmy’s acrobatic drumming and hilarious stage antics… not to mention his performance of the great songs of the fabulous 1950s and the sensational 1960s. “It’s an Oldies Act that was worth waiting for…” said a client.
